@Mathieu Lévesque was hired to perform a pre-purchase home inspection. He was thorough, knowledgeable, and pleasant to deal with—recommended by our realtor.

Following the inspection, Mathieu offered his company’s contracting services (Gestion LT) for a “turn-key” renovation, promising the same professionalism. Based on that, we hired him to renovate our home.

Initially, things went well. We received weekly updates, photos, and check-ins. Living in another city, we had to trust the work was being done as promised.

We agreed on a move-in date with the expectation that one full floor (including bathroom and bedrooms) would be ready, and that kitchen plumbing would be functional. We clearly communicated we’d be arriving with a U-Haul, our kids, three adults, and a dog. But when we arrived, workers were still painting, and the bathroom was nowhere near done. We were met with surprise and annoyance.

We had to find alternative housing. Two months later, the house was still far from complete and seriously behind schedule. Often only one person was working—and only a few days a week. One worker was even fired for lack of skills. We were repeatedly given excuses: health issues, other projects, etc.

Eventually, I had to work from the house just to monitor progress—doing the project management we had hired Gestion LT to handle. Despite this effort, nothing improved.

We ultimately had to negotiate an exit from the contract.

We also expected Mathieu to remain our point of contact, but were handed off to @Erik Thibaudeau, who seemed to lack construction, project management, and even basic customer service skills. He insulted both me and my wife. We never agreed to work with him.

This felt like a classic bait-and-switch: the salesperson was convincing, but the follow-through was mismanaged and under-resourced. We were told other projects were prioritized, and it became clear Gestion LT had overbooked themselves.

This wasn’t a small job—demolition, structural and foundational modifications, plumbing, electrical, and more. We were willing to pay premium rates for timely, quality work.

To be fair, when work was completed (and under close supervision), the quality was decent. Also, some external vendor delays (e.g. cabinets and countertops) added 2 weeks, but even excluding that, we were months behind.

Then came warranty issues. Months later, we discovered serious problems: insufficient insulation in a reconstructed room (causing ice buildup and water damage), a cracking doorway above a structurally modified foundation, a faulty thermostat, non-functional outlets, and more.

We reached out to Gestion LT to address these issues under the one-year warranty—by email and other platforms. After two ignored emails, they finally responded only to say they had no obligation to fix anything. Then they went silent.

Now we’re stuck spending more time and money fixing these issues through third parties.

If you're considering Gestion LT, proceed with caution. Demand recent references, specify who will be your main contact, lay out clear timelines with penalties for delays, and include written guarantees about how and when warranty issues will be handled.
