I've been with this middleman company for one term. I don't remember how long that is for, maybe 5 years.
About a month ago I started to be contacted for renewal, sounding urgent, I had to call internationally while on vacation.
In discussion with the agent, she kept wanting to send someone to our house.
I signed up originally thinking I would be saving money and never checked. The agent I questioned during the call said I should save about one months bill per year, but the answers to my questions didn't reflect that.
Today, thinking the term and plan expired, I get any call from her wanting to send someone to our house to sign a new contract. Too pushy for my liking, so I started to delve deeper into my hydro bills and searched plans on hydro one website, resulting in a call to hyd one to confirm my findings.
I calculated my last 4 bills using both parties rates applicable to our area.
Each month I paid higher kWh rate with the retailer. Just the last month I paid $55.00 (about 25%) more than if I just stayed with hyd one. I don't know how much I lost over the maybe 5 year term. I'm kind of glad she was so pushy which makes me suspicious and led to my closer examination of this "deal"
I tried to call her back to cancel the appointment, but no answer.
I will not be renewing and advise anyone reading this lengthy review (sorry), to do their own comparison. For high volume accounts, might be worth it, but not for us as a residential account.
It's the global adjustment that screws you.
And either way, we're still getting screwed with the "delivery" charge.

This is the review you want to read if you are a small business that has been approached by Ontario Wholesale Energy, and are trying to decide if they are legit, worth it, etc.

They are a real business, it's not an outright scam, but you WILL NOT SAVE MONEY unless you use all your electricity during on-peak times. I did my research, but my business still lost hundreds of dollars.

They charge you a rate that approx. reflects the off-peak rate + 1.5c, even during the on-peak times. This means you can save only if you use A LOT of on-peak electricity. It also varies based on the global adjustment rate, which changes every month.

I have 60% of my usage off-peak, and the other 40% mid-peak and on-peak. Every month of the last 6 months I have lost money compared to if I stayed with Toronto Hydro.

The math is not exact because you cannot know future global adjustment rates, and you can only know after switching if you'll save. Then it takes months and months to cancel

The information is clear in the contract, there was no dishonesty. But the salesperson was not fully transparent about under what conditions I might save money.

Ultimately this is an obnoxious arbitrage business acting as a useless middleman, and shaving money off of business which actually provide a service, such as Toronto hydro, stores, etc.

The entire thing has left a sour taste in my mouth and I wish I never signed up, and I wish business such as this had no reason to exist. Sit down and review your past bills and do the math twice.

Extremely sketchy company. Sales person came in and wanted to take a full photo of my hydro bill including my account number. I told him i prefer if he took my card and to show me rates on paper before i proceed.

He kept insisting that he rather take a photo of my hydro bill that included my account number and that i would be contacted in 10 days to sign documents. At no time did i even agree to it accept transfering to their company.

In the end i told him no and would rather do some research into their company before proceeding. Glad i looked into this given the fact that there are so many bad reviews about how sketchy they work.

Don't trust their cancellation policy. They say 2 billing cycles and then after it went on for three billing cycles, I send an email to inquire...their response is "it may take more than three". That's not what is says in your policy. Avoid changing your gas supplier, their rate is too high.

Complete scam, I had these guys into talk to me, and being with a secondary supplier before I know they like to add on the global adjustment, basically a fee to make up the difference between the energy cost your paying and what they are selling it for. So I asked the guy straight up, I said " so everything else stays the same on my bill" and he said yes, only difference is you 'll pay 9.5 cents all the time. Well when we had the follow up call, the guy asks if I am ok with the global adjustment being added to my bill, and I lost it on him! Cancelled the contract, don't do business with this guys ever!
