Chung performed both initial and final energy audits for my home. He was professional, efficient, and informative - recommending upgrades needed to qualify for the government energy programs. As soon as I informed GIEC of the completed upgrades, Chung promptly returned for the final assessment. Reports for both assessments were delivered much faster than expected, which was a relief as I have heard horror stories with other companies taking weeks and months to finalize. We had an extremely unusual experience, apparently.

Our audit was done quickly, and information was given to us concerning the heat pump we were planning to purchase & have installed. Our installers were from out of town, not local, which was a surprise to us when they arrived to do the work. Having already been approved for the special government funding, as explained by our consultant, we went ahead with the job.

The weather on the day of installation wasn't pleasant, so the work ended up being hastily done, and the workers left town.

Things went along OK until we had a heat wave before we'd had the unit for a month, and the unit FROZE UP COMPLETELY. Turned out that the setting for controlling air flow hadn't been tested, causing ice to build up. No one from the installation company would come to repair the problem, and we had to wait a full week before they arranged for a local company to provide service, by which time the heat wave was over. We were less than impressed.

During the explanation of the entire procedure to have this unit be funded under the government incentive, we must've misunderstood the many steps, as it turned out that we were NOT approved for the special government loan with 0% interest for the first 10 years, which our auditor assured us would be approved. There was an inspection required, which we thought we had done, but it was done AFTER installation, not beforehand. Consequently we were informed that only the basic grant portion could be applied to our purchase. While we do appreciate the efforts of our consultant, who seemed to know his facts, it would have been so much less disappointing if we'd had accurate information as to the timing of the many steps required.

We have already told many of our acquaintances of our unpleasant experience, and we will NOT be recommending, nor planning to consider, any further 'upgrades' to our home, nor to homes of those to whom we've spoken. We're now stuck with this huge bill that has to be paid within a few months, and we can't afford to add to this debt.

Being on fixed retirement incomes, this debacle has required us to do some major juggling of our savings, and has left us completely unimpressed with the entire 'upgrading' process.
