STAY AWAY from this business…especially if you are a female.
I had rented from Double R approximately 8-9 years ago without a concern/problem.
That is NOT the case today!
I contacted their Ladner shop to rent a large rototiller for Aug. 13, 2023.
Tom was very friendly and secured the rental for me.
On the morning of Aug. 13th, I called to ask if I could change the delivery time from 10:15 to 11:30am. I was told that there was ‘no problem’ with my request.
At 11:45am, I called asking where the rototiller was. I was told that the driver was running a bit behind but he was on his way. I live 7 minutes away from the shop in Ladner.
At 12:05pm, I call back and ask what happened to the driver…did he die on route to my home. The fellow laughed then said…No, he’s coming from Burnaby. I expressed my concern that I wasn’t told that at 11:45am. I asked the man (either Andrew or Tom) to contact the driver to get an exact time that I could expect the delivery. They called back approximately 1-2 minutes before the driver arrived.
The driver finally arrived after 12:15pm. I greeted the driver that had parked on the street, in front of my driveway.
I expressed my disappointment that he was over 45 minutes late and didn’t have the common courtesy to call me to give me a reasonable delivery estimate.
This rude, juvenile employee looked up from unpacking the rototiller and in an obnoxious tone said “That’s not my job.”
I said excuse me but are you the driver of this vehicle?
He repeated himself with the same repugnant tone in his voice…That’s not my job.
I then said…but are you the driver of this vehicle? There’s no other individual with you so it would be safe to acknowledge that you have to be the driver. He refused to answer the question. I then continued that ‘Who else would be better able to determine the delivery time than the person driving the vehicle? It definitely wouldn’t be the employees in the shop, correct?
Again, he refused to answer the question, let alone apologize for his delay.
He decided that he didn’t like being called out for his thoughtless behaviour so he stated…I don’t like the way your speaking to me so I’m leaving.
I entered into the passenger side seat and stated that I was not leaving until I spoke to the employees in Ladner office.
Either Tom or Andrew ended up supporting the driver’s inappropriate behaviour and left with the rototiller.
Later that afternoon a Constable from Delta Police visited my home. He had received a complaint regarding my possible criminal actions. I was out but he left his card with my son. I called the officer back and left a voicemail.
He returned my call later that afternoon and after a long ADULT conversation with the officer it was decided that he would contact Double R Rental and point out the errors of their actions/behaviour.
I was left with the impression that the employees are a bunch of ‘red-neck’ yahoos that take great offence when a women points out their high school antics…especially a female with a Dr. title.
I would strongly recommend to find a different company if you need to rent any equipment…NOT Double R Rentals.
I know I will NEVER contact them again…BAD behaviour by schoolboys is not something I want to go through again.
Someone needs to remind those employees…When you act like children…you get treated like children.
