The soil is soil and great for filler but you will want to add fertilizer or compost if you plan on growing anything. The mulch is typically more rustic than the store bought mulch but it looks great and doesn’t need replacing every year or even every other year. The staff is also very knowledgeable and friendly. It is heavier than one might expect.

Great place to come for yard mulch. Haven't picked up the compost or top soil as I'm not sure I trust what's in it but I can speak for the mulch that it is very carefully regulated and hasn't given my yard any unwanted pests or fungi. Friendly staff.

Went for the compost. Compost was much better than the same time last year. Last year had large pieces of wood, alot resembling building material which I thought was not allowed to be dropped at the compost depot.

Great service. Visitors complaining that the attendant was acting like a child must be one of those citizens who feel entitled and that things must always go their way. These attendants deserve some respect and dignity. That they are paid from our tax money does not mean they should be treated like slaves. I had used the service on 2 different ocassions and my experiences were great. Often you get what you give. If you approach any service provider with the attitude of a slave drive, you get what you give. Those City staff at the compost depot are simply very helpful and approachable.

More detail on rates and hours would be beneficial. Similar to past reviews, we drove across town to the new location with a rented truck to pick up 3 yards of soil. Contacted the city for information this week, and there’s no mention that you can’t get loaded on Sunday’s, nor was there any mention when I contacted the help line.

Also, one of the older men working there seems to think it’s hilarious that we couldn’t get loaded today and had an attitude of a 12 year old.

I understand good help is hard to find but if you’re getting paid to greet and help citizens, maybe consider being better at your job rather than having attitude with the citizens paying your wages.

Turned me away because i had elm tree branches i guess, but then still proceeded to rip some of my bags open to see what I had for curiosity sake I guess? Had to rebag it so it didn't blow out on the road.

When the staff saw my elm branches they looked at me like I'd just committed a murder. They make it so difficult to throw things away that I've pretty much given up going and just want to throw things in the garbage from now on.

The staff there were helpful. Landmarks were clear, so even if you're a first timer, everything is crystal clear where drop offs are for different things and or picks up. It's free and hours are reasonable. Go early if you can, it does get really busy really fast!

If you are open until 6:00, be open until 6:00. I drove across the city and arrived at 5:51 to be told to come back tomorrow. If you’re workers are going to close at 5:50, make that your closing time.
I also did not think it was nearly as funny that I just missed the time as the old gentleman seemed to think it was.
