I have a lifted and heavily modified off-road/overland vehicle.

Following some work at another shop, the truck had developed a persistent alignment issue and was pulling at highway speeds. Although they weren't expecting such a vehicle to show up on the day of the appointment, the owner of the shop personally called me to ask additional questions about the truck, the build and when I got it back it it felt solid again up front.

It is so hard to find a good, honest automotive shop these days. As a retired military guy, I also appreciate attention to detail. I drove from Maryland to Virginia for this one and will continue to do so.

The phone call ended with, “I don’t think that you know your vehicle that well and your expectations are too high”. This was said to me verbatim! Why I was spoken to disrespectfully and insulted is unclear! I own and drive a 2021 Chevy Express work van with almost 50K miles purchased new, drive daily and the only driver…. ever! Time for new tires! I chose to do business with Hillyard Automotive since they sponsor my kids’ high school, have excellent reviews, and they are a local small business as I am. The service was supposed to be routine and common, tire changing, balance, alignment. Scheduled the appointment a month ahead, came in on time, waited for the service, paid in full, left. Driving the vehicle, I noticed that the steering wheel is off, slightly to the right and pulls to the right, also feel a vibration at different speeds. Called back, made another appointment about a week later. Not a huge deal… lets just get it right!

Arrived for my 2nd appointment, the van got re-aligned, tires were re-balanced but this time with stick on weights. These wheels are made for hammer on style weights. Again, I leave, and the alignment is much better but now the vibration is at a different speed than before. The only change was the balance.

The orientation of the wheels was NOT put back where they came from and now, I have a tire light on that cannot be resolved without a scan tool or physically rearranging the tires or driving back on the other side of town for a 3rd time. When mentioned this to Mike, I got no response.

Call back, share the exciting news with Mike and this is the excellent customer service I received. Not getting it right the first time is a human error and happens all the time, but to be disrespected is not okay. Why this became personal is my opinion that someone’s feeling got hurt. We have a new driver in our household that just got a car, and another one getting a vehicle next year. You never know what one job can turn into. We will have 5 vehicles in our immediate family this time next year, you could have easily had ALL of them. Thanks

I was referred to Hillyard through Lindsay VW after requesting some custom aftermarket work. Finding a general service shop that will also do custom performance part installs isn't easy to find! Most shops won't touch aftermarket parts.

I wish I lived closer because Hillyard would be my new go to general service shop. Austin (front desk guy) and his personality alone would keep me coming back. He's incredibly friendly and welcoming, a perfect client/customer liaison.

Special kudos goes to the multiple techs who worked on my VW. I know they're a pain in the neck to work on and I greatly appreciate it!

I came to Hillyard based on the awesome reviews, and after having them fix a few things on my truck, I can definitely understand why the reviews are so amazing!

Mike Hillyard was professional, polite, and kept me updated throughout the entire process. Him and his team didn't upsell me the way so many other shops have, they were honest, and they got he work done very quickly to get me on my way for a weekend road trip.

End-to-end, Hillyard was amazing to deal with! I'll absolutely bring my cars back here without hesitation, and I definitely recommend them!

I cannot recommend this shop highly enough. From the first time I called and spoke to Mike to my interactions with him and the other staff during my visits I always comfortable. My car is modified so I am vary warry of where I bring it. They were very knowledgeable and went above and beyond completing my routine work (full brake job) as well fixing the poor work completed by another shop (bad alignment). Communication is excellent, they didn't try to upsell me on things I didn't need and I felt that they genuinely had my best interests at heart. I would feel comfortable bringing either a normal standard daily driver here for work as well as something that was unique and/or highly modified.
