We purchased an EV on Tuesday April 8 and contacted 401 Electric that day to get a quote on installing an EV charger. They were hoping to have one installed by Friday April 11 when we picked up the car, but they only provided the quote on this day. The quote did not mention the model of EV charger, length of wire needed, or number of hours of labour … just a total dollar amount. I helped them out by moving furniture, removing ceiling tiles and removing insulation from the path for the wiring. They arrived on Monday April 21 (13 days) to install the wiring and charger but they installed the wrong one. They left the original charger but replaced the cable and connector on Tuesday April 29 (another 8 days). The “new” cable and connector appeared to have quite a bit of damage which means it was likely used. I could have ordered a charger on Amazon and had it in 24 hours. Invoice amount is the same as the quote which means my efforts to clear a path and then put everything back in place was worth nothing to them. I then had a charger and cable that didn’t match, which means the connector doesn’t mount to the charger as it should.

Chris arrived May 9 to discuss our concerns. He agreed that the connector should mount into the charging unit and made plans to replace both. He had an itemized list of all the charges with him and he said he was going to forward it to us. We should have immediately taken a picture of it, since we never received this document. He went back to the office and gave instructions to someone but we only got a list of parts with no dollar amounts per line … almost useless info. I was able to search the internet for most of the items and I came up with a total of about $3000. Chris told us they automatically charge an extra 21% on top of all parts which brings the total up to $3630 which isn’t too far from the total they are charging. We finally got the new charger and connector on May 15 (over 5 weeks after the initial order). We gave up on getting a detailed invoice and just paid the bill.

The whole experience left us feeling like 401 was trying to deceive us and hide information. What kind of company doesn’t provide a detailed invoice of all the work and parts? I guess we should have asked for quotes from other installers.

The guys were there first thing. They wore booties when the melting snow was making things messy. They showed appreciation for my having some areas ready for them and worked around areas I missed. Did their work well while other contractors were crossing paths with them and did it safely. Found and corrected issues while advising me about them. Great job!

Echoing previous sentiments because they are all 100% accurate and true. From the initial call (shout out to Tracy!) to the prompt and considerate service, it was all gold stars across the board. Haven't received the invoice yet, but am sure it will be fair and definitely worth the fees. Thanks again for everything, team!

401 recently completed extensive EXCELLENT electrical service upgrades and add-ons for our residential renovation project. They were extremely responsive throughout and completed the work in a timely/friendly manner, coordinating well with the other trades. The result is topnotch, and includes a new main panel, additional subpanels, 120v, 240v and low voltage service extensions for both interior + exterior - e.g. HVAC, cold storage, radiant floor and ceiling heat, baseboards, back-up generator, pool equipment, hot-tub, dock, gardens, EV charging, etc., etc. plus more typical lighting, switches, outlets, etc. Much of interior work involved solving difficult "recent renovations over top of original construction" problems (including replacing pre-existing faulty wiring), all done without tearing up walls/ceilings/floors for access. The whole team is 5 stars +++ and highly recommended !

Tracy, the office administrator, listens carefully, hears your concerns and is knowledgeable and efficient. Mitchell and Logan, the electricians, also listened thoughtfully, repaired/replaced efficiently and explained clearly. They went out of their way to help me deal with new home unknowns such as Pot light bulb replacement. And they cleaned up after themselves. I will call them again for future needs and highly recommend their service.

We have called on 401 electric on two occasions this past year for replacement of baseboard heater and a bathroom fan.They responded very quickly scheduling the work,arriving on time,and the electrician was courteous and very competently went to work....and they cleaned up before leaving.Confident in calling them for future work.
