Cunning Energy installed the first ground source heat pump known in Nova Scotia for my parents home. I've personally hired Cunning Energy to install 5 heat pumps (both ductless & ducted). They are easy to deal with and have knowledgeable and hard working technicians.

Had a heat pump installed with electrical panel upgrade. Service from the Cunning team was excellent and professional. Even the Electrician they subcontracted out for the panel upgrade was excellent-Highlight Electric (subcontracting can be dicey at times). No delays, no excuses, etc.

Installation of unit was fanatic, Jason was the installer, he is very particular, and I cannot praise him enough! My issues started when the blower motor gave out, Rick (owner) said he could not get a motor,and nothing he could do for me. I called a competitor of his and purchased the motor myself, paid to have it installed, as Rick would do nothing to help. This was a 5 ton heat pump system(1 1/2 years old) for a whole house, under warranty. I continued to call, leave messages until I reached him, upon further discussion, he agreed to give me a replacement motor when he could get one, but that was a nightmare as well, he does not return calls, or have any form of communication. Another two years later, the mfg, Payne, agreed to help me directly and gave me the replacement motor, in case I have another issue in the future. Very disappointing, a company is only as good as their service! I tried everything possible to solve this without giving a bad review, as the install was perfect! Rick needs to have better control on his service, I can’t imagine what the company would be like without Jason!

After a good deal of research we decided to go with Cunning Energy. It’s a family run business and owner Rick Cunning spent considerable time with us explaining every aspect of our proposed heat pump upgrade.
Rick’s install crew was fantastic and we are very pleased with the system!
Cunning’s professional and personable approach leave little doubt why they have such great ratings.

They are a locally owned small business with the most knowledgeable sales, install and repair around, and their prices are second to none as well with financing available.

We learned of Cunning Energy through a friend of our son who works for this company. We met with the owner Rick and he explained all aspects of a heat pump installation. He was extremely knowledgeable and professional.He also went through all the savings that were available . We had them install a heat pump, new water heater and remove the oil tank. His installation team were courteous and professional. They did all the work in less than one day. They explained how to use the system and took the time to answer our questions. We highly recommend this business. You won't be sorry.

Cunning Energy installed my heat pump back in 2014. I had several issues with my units over the years. It's difficult to say whether the issues were due to poor equipment or the actual installation of them, but my real issue lies in how I've been treated by this company.

About a year ago one of of my units stopped working. I was told that it couldn't be repaired as LG was no longer making the replacement part for my unit. So the company convinced me to replace my entire system instead of only replacing the one head due to the energy rebates that were available at the time.

I had an installation date booked for October 2022. The day before my installation date I received a call to let me know that my replacement unit was on backorder and that my installation date would be pushed out by a few weeks at most. A few weeks passed and no call. I called to follow up and was told again that the unit was still on backorder and was given another date. That date came and went, no one called to give me an update.

Since then, I haven't been able to get a hold of anyone at the company. No one returns my calls or answers my email, and the company still appears to be in business. I suspect this is due to the fact that I'm no longer eligible for the energy rebates which I was promised. So now I'm really screwed!

Do your research! There are better companies out there.

Re heat pump installation. This is our second experience with them and our install went marvellously.
One suggestion from a customer perspective: please persevere at calling back as the gentleman is not excellent at “getting back to you”. His wife, however, is.
Their follow up re problems is also excellent.
